December 10, 2001

i've discovered a way i can write with the big guy sitting beside me and not worry about Him being able to read over my shoulder.  i reduce the font size i'm working in.  Voila!  Okay, so i have to squint a bit - but hey, it helps my shyness.

i survived the first catering assignment.  Barely.  But things went a lot better than i expected, and i'm positive a lot of that has to do with the fact that the people i hired knew i was nervous and became determined to help.  i couldn't have asked for more.  The food was wonderful, it was delivered on time - even 15 minutes earlier than originally planned for the lunch part, at my last minute request ... and i got invited to lunch by the chef.

What more could a girl ask for?

i admit to being hugely flattered.  my forty something - panicking about the next birthday with a zero on the end - ego - needed that.  And the guy was way cute.  Way.

i'm refusing to even entertain the possibility that he was schmoozing for a future catering assignment.  Especially since i did notice him check out my left hand  as he was handing me the food.

Heh.  Old girl's still got it.

Double heh.  Himself just looked over and tried to read this.  i'm now down to 8 point font.  Sheesh.

So the big guy likes to prepare dinner, and while it is simmering get comfy on a chair near the stove, with a glass of rum in one hand and a good book in the other.  That's usually when i escape to the computer or my own book for awhile.

Now He wants a chair to permanently live in the kitchen.  Which is a very nice idea and in a perfect world we would actually have room for a chair in there.  But regardless of all the work we've done on our house, and how lovely it looks, it's still a pocket sized house.  There is just not a lot of room to be had for big ole comfy chairs!

He's been adamant however, that He wants a chair.  And this has been going on for months. Finally one day i came up with an idea - why not a folding chair that could be tucked away and only pulled out when needed.  i mean, it's not everyday that He does this simmer cooking type of thing right?  Well, He liked the idea but then got specific on how that chair would look.  He wanted it to be a burgundy leather chair.  Just His alone.  Right.

Have you ever tried to find a burgundy leather folding chair?  That's remotely affordable and doesn't come in a set?  After a bit of searching i finally decided i'd get a regular folding chair and re-upholster it.  i figured we had enough flogger creating friends to find some leather from.

So last night i'm searching the net again.  i try Ikea, and Canadian Tire, and Sears.. all the usual places one would expect to find a folding chair.  Not a lot of luck.  Finally i decided to try eBay.

     Sigh.

i found the perfect little chair.  It's a folding chair even.  However, it's not a conventional folding chair.  This one unfolds to create a little step stool.  Which is exactly what a short person like me needs in a kitchen of tall shelves.  It also matches the colour of the Asian cabinet and the cd holder.  (The cd holder is very unconventional - some day i hope to get a pic of it).

However, it's still the same size as a regular chair, which means it's going to be a bear trying to figure out where to put it in that room.  Yes, we got it.  i showed it to Himself (i suspect He knew that's what i was trying to get Him for Christmas) and since He's the one with the bidding rights on eBay, placed His bid and won.

And now that i'm studying these pics, i'm realizing that The Chair needs to be turned upside down to become a stepstool.  How bizarre!  i also don't really think it's going to fit in the kitchen.  i may be looking for a folding chair yet again.

i pointed this out to Himself  (yes i let Him see the screen) and He's going "what, what! you don't want it now?"  To which i replied; "well yes, it's Your Christmas present!"  "Oh," He says.

He was buying it 'cause He thought i really wanted it.  A 'just because' gift.  He's such a sweet man.

Even if He does drive me crazy sometimes.  ( i had to say the previous in order to preserve His rep - not supposed to let anyone know He's sweet sometimes y'know)

:)  i wouldn't have it any other way though.

Note:  He just glanced over - i hollered 'don't be readin' this!  He says; "I'm not!  I'm just lookin' at my dam' Christmas present!"  Heh.  Got me there.

Another note:  Anybody have questions i can answer - topics i can write about?  This writing everyday stuff is hard!
